Yet another year has come & gone ..

...and here we are, at the threshold.

Yea.. I know all the 3 pictures said the same thing. I like to make a grand gesture :|

It's still New Year's eve here. Looking back at the year which just slipped through our fingers.. I should say it was an eventful year. Right amount of happy times and of course ample amount of testing times. Some fascinating trips within the country. Good times with friends. Even more lovely moments with R. Watched some admirable movies and some really crappy ones too. Moved apartments. Celebrated our birthdays and our second wedding anniversary. Enjoyed the picturesque Spring. Endured the humid Summer. My first ever concert experience - Coldplay!! My lil blog grew and is still growing and here I am beaming. 49 followers!!! Are you kidding me?!!Thankyou all. You are also the reason why the past year was a happy one! Started getting books to be reviewed. Oh God, I was/am on cloud nine when I think that somebody needs my opinion too. Bought more books than I could read. Gave in to the e-reader era, went ahead and bought a Kindle. Even though I missed both my brothers' wedding, my besties' wedding & had to encounter some really frustrating times, in a nutshell 2012 was good to me and I am thankful.

So here's to another new year where the slate is wiped clean. To look forward to a fresh start and brand new aspirations.

To live the good simple life.
Weave new tales for yourselves.
Appreciate good company, food, wine & music.
See the beauty in mediocrity.
Carve yourself a niche.
Live the good life.

Wishing you all a brilliant year ahead.

See you all on the other side.
Peace.

I thought

Like waves, it comes and goes.
Sometimes hitting so hard it takes my breath away;
And ever so often silent and still, that I forget.
I thought I was alright.
Guess what? I am not and that my friend, is perfectly alright.
They say music heals.
Right now, songs lead me to the verge of desperation.
There seems to be almost nothing which can keep the mind occupied.
Chopping onions did.. for a while
Without a fight, the tears ran down.
No!! I chastised.
Melting down seems like a great idea at the moment.
I almost had forgotten what a heartache feels like.
I thought I am alright.
I told them I am mourning.
They smirked. Or did I just imagine that?
I wonder, do they understand?
I am bitter.
I am broken.
I am not alone.
I know.
Yet, why does it feel that way?
Sighing at the events that are going to unravel.
Its a long winding road ahead.
And I am already tired.
Being strong. Staying strong.
Two different states of mind.
He told me to detach myself.
Brother, you know I am the epitome of emotional overdose.
Silence.
He told me to cry.
Honey, I don't want to look weak.
A wavering kiss on the forehead.
She said  its going to be alright.
I told her I am alright.
My voice quivered.
An ache passed through.
I thought I will be alright.
I am not.
I will be strong later.
For now, I will mourn till I can't take it anymore.
And you cannot take that away from me.

Book Review - Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Title: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
Author: Seth Grahame-Smith
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing.
Format: Paperback.
Pages: 336.
Genre: Mash up, Historical Fiction, Vampires.
Blurb: Here.

I bought this book from Walmart, the main and the only reason being I was curious. The 16th President of United States, a vampire hunter?! Interesting.. hmm.. Plus R wanted me to give him an insight before he could bother to watch the movie. He was all hyped that it was a Tim Burton movie. People do make mistakes, don't they? No, I'm not writing off the book. :|| Patience, you guys! :P

My Thoughts:
There has been this recent fad- the mashup genre. Some important person from the history, a dash of supernatural, lot of blurring between what is real and what is fiction, at the end all wells that ends well- the historian prevails or his legacy continues. This so called genre has been doing its rounds and I gave in eventually.
Forgive my ignorance, I didn't  really know about Abraham Lincoln's personal life, about his wife and about the death of his son. All that I knew was what I learnt sleepily in my history class years back. :|
The first few pages of the book left me impressed by the creativity. A struggling author is approached by a mysterious man offering him the rumored 'lost journals' of  Abraham Lincoln requesting him to write a book. To bring the truth out. The plot starts with young Abe, living with his parents and sister. His mother's untimely death which is later understood by young Abe that it was the work of the black eyed, fanged monsters. Thus starts the crusade for vengeance
He trains himself in wielding the axe. Gathers all information he needs to know about the vampires only to be saved at the last moment from the fangs of a 'bad' vampire by yet another 'good' vampire, Henry Struges. So, now we know the fanged guys are all  not bad. Cliched? Hell yeah!

The book reaches a meh period and stays that way  as Abe wanders around working in a shop and by night killing off the vampires. There is no real explanation about how he gets interested in politics. All those sections felt murky and plain rushed over. There was a point when Abe meets the dark gloomy author Edgar Allen Poe. I still don't get why that was needed in the plot :||

There are mentions about his first love, dead- obvious winners - vampires! So more vengeance.

I should say, that the author did mange to leave the readers questioning some scenes in the book. Some of the instances did seem quite real. I found it amusing how the author inserted the role of vampires in events that actually took place in history. For instance, Abe wanted to abolish slavery. The slave owners here are the vampires. Boom - The Civil War! See..get the flow? Another factor which I liked about the book was the narration. It switches between the what the author writes and what Abraham Lincoln wrote in his journals. SG-S did entertain the readers by adding photographs of the vampires and other interesting ' is-it-for-real?' photographs.
I felt the book had potential, however the ending was without any fizz. I expected something more to happen. I expected an after note from the author about another meeting with the mysterious pale dark glasses guy who gave him the journals in the first place. That would have been creepy. Nothing of that sort happened. The ending was plain disappointing. No grand finale. Just a flimsy attempt to tie up the loose ends.

The movie - is so easily forgettable. The book and the movie are poles apart. There was almost no similarities.

My rating:

For the introduction, creativity and the clever photgraphs.

Pain

Torn skin.
Broken bones.
Slit veins.
Blood flow.

Bated breath.

Unanswered tears.
Gasping for breath.
Sleepless nights.
Breaking hearts.

Heartache.

Sometimes..the feeling itself is better than nothing at all.
This too shall pass and the light will soon be visible.
Until then.. trudge on..

The Suit-Up fixation

I'm not generally much of a movie or a celebrity person. I rarely bother about what celebrities are upto and if I watch movies, its long after its released. Long after all the grandeur!  I watched the Lord Of The Rings trilogy like a month back! My friend R, was like' How come so early?!!'  :/
Batman happened around 3 months back! I am not sure why, I can spend hours watching  TV series on Netflix or some shady websites, but I cannot muster the patience to sit through a movie. Anywaaii I'm not here to give you an inside scoop of how sad my movie list is. I'm here to profess my undying love to people who look divinely hot in suits.

Example? Christian Bale in Batman

Or Matt Bomer in White Collar. Have you seen that chap?!!! To die for, I tell you!

The geeky look is to die for!!

or Ryan Gosling in Gangster Squad. I saw the trailer of this movie releasing in Januray 2013. Awesome cast. Sean Penn,Emma Stone and the gorgeous Gosling. Ole gangsta style. I might actually watch this one.

Daniel Craig takes dressing up to an entirely different level. I am was a James Bond virgin. I had not seen any Bond movie until I happened to see Skyfall few weeks back. Ooohlalaa.. God, the man sure knows how to look smoking hot and the icing being.. the accent..** sigh**

Yes I know I am swooning. I can't help it. Just look at him. He stole my heart and I am officially in love with him**Yes, I had said the same thing about Channing Tatum** for the rest of my life... Or  maybe till the next gorgeous guy in a 3 piece suit makes an appearance :O Till then I remain an ardent admirer of Mr Craig!

Take your time. We can wait !!

I must have watched the trailer and the soundtrack of the movie by Adele a zillion times!!!

As a result of my recent obsession I watched both of  Daniel Craig Bond movies. Somehow the lack of patience didn't show up this time around!! :|
Plus, the guy is funny. If anyone saw him as the host of SNL, you know what I am talking about!
