The Weird Diaries - 4

When you are down in the dumps, you may find people who try to console you. You may or may not think you need any consoling. Some like to be left alone while others like to rant and cry a river. But it's really not up to you, is it? Sometimes when you need someone to make you feel better, you find yourself all alone and at other times when all you need is to be left alone people hoard around you.
What I don't get is when people try to console, by saying stuff like It's okay. Look there are so many others who have it worse than you. Soo.. you are telling me that I should feel better that others are suffering too? What kind of sadistic person did you think I am? If you don't know what to say keep your frikkin mouth shut!
 photo tumblr_m6cer3wIHy1rt1a5xo1_250_zps130eb82c.gif

Sometimes, its better to just the leave the wounded person alone. No amount of I'm sooo sorry that such &such happened to you is going to make the person feel better. They may smile and politely nod their heads. Most probably they would feel like wringing out your neck!

Aaand since we are ranting todaii, I might as well say this. I despise Taylor Swift. I cannot stand yet ANOTHER break up song each time I switch on the radio. There, I said it!

I am in the obnoxiously rude mode today.

Book Review - Bohemia

Title: Bohemia.
Author: Veronika Carnaby.
Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform.
Year of Publication: 2012
Format: E-book.
Pages: 192.
Genre: Fiction.
Blurb: Here.

I received a copy of Bohemia from the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.

My Thoughts:
Bohemia is about a group of youngsters in their journey to carve a niche of their own in this world. The plot takes place in the sixties- a time when setting forward to pursue ones dreams was still unheard of. The story revolves around V, short for Valerie Freed and the people she associates with. V and her best friend Emm are two free spirited girls from Cambridge, England. Still clueless and eager about their future, the girls meet 2 guys- Lester & Jimmy, hippies to the core who offer them a chance to explore the  world. The 4 of them set out to explore what the world has to offer them. The 4 characters meet more interesting people on their way, musicians , dancers etc.
Each with their own dreams and goals, yet they are not hesitant to take up odd jobs to survive in this world. Their motto - live in the moment. The moment monotony hits, they pack up their bags and leave, find a new place to weave yet another experience. The story takes us from England to New York to Boston and hours spent travelling in their beat down car.
As the story progresses, some characters are left behind and new ones are added. Like mentioned before, each of the characters have their own dreams & visions. For instance, few of them are good dancers including Emm, then there are talented musicians, there is a  photographer amongst them who captures breathtaking photographs. All of them were blessed with some or the other creative skills and all trying to make it big.

The only thing I was a little confused was time. Sometimes I would think that the story progressed couple of days and later I find out that it's just the next day or vice versa. Another thing which I noticed was sometimes it was difficult to track who is speaking to whom. So I would then have to go back and read the passage again to get the actual scene! I felt a little disappointed when the plot went ahead and the roles of Lester & Jimmy were abruptly terminated. Given the fact that V and Emm were friends for quite a long time, I didn't quite feel the depth in their relationship.Maybe it was because they were in living in a time when conformity didn't quite prevail! Different people wanted different things and they went different ways to make their dreams come true.
The book felt more like a memoir - a chunk from the protagonist's life, than a fiction. I liked how V was indecisive of what her skill was when all the people around her had it all figured out. The part when she finally understands what she was destined to be was very realistic  It wasn't sudden, on the other hand it was a slow process and also with a help of a friend.
The feel of the book is relaxed. It has a very vintage feel to it. The language is crisp. I liked the fact that the author used bits and pieces of the slangs used then, in the book making it more authentic. The author takes us back in time to the age of rock and roll and the twist dance. Sepia mode, bare bulb-ed rooms laced with cigarette smoke, worn out guitars in battered houses and happy content youngsters. This was the picture painted in my mind while I read this book.
I particularly liked the ending. Since the ending is actually just the beginning. The book points out that life is a journey and every experience is a chapter. A delightful and a therapeutic book. A breezy read to take with you on a day at the beach!
I wish the author good luck in her future endeavors.

The Couch Potato Series 3

TheCouchPotatoSeries is back!! Guess who's in town? Its the suave con man Neal Caffrey from White Collar.
Now, if you are going to tell me you have not yet watched the show, I demand you to start watching it- I don't care how. Atleast for the super smoking good looks. You will thank me ladies...and gentlemen  :)

This show has been on streaming in Netflix for several months now and guess what, I didn't click the watch button the very minute I realized this truth! Why you ask? It's because, I was keeping it for the future. A future where I might just run out of shows to watch and I can just melt into those striking blue eyes. Savoring it. Yea I know, I am over dramatizing it. I'm known for that!
Anyhoo, one fateful day I was bored straight and I decided to login to Netflix and the rest is history. I was hooked from the moment the legendary Neal Caffrey- art con artist escapes from prison and slips into those designer suits!
Ladies & Gentlemen I present to you, Matt Bomer as Neal Caffrey- the sophisticated con man, master forger, big brains, high profile thief, art lover, killer looks. Seriously what more do you want? No, don't answer that. That was a rhetorical question. :|

 photo neal_drive_zpscd5067db.gif

The opening scene - Neal Caffrey serving time in a maximum security prison escapes just months before his release date, kleptos a Rolls Royce and cruises through the roads of Manhattan. Subtle! The FBI agent Peter Burke, from the White Collar division who caught Neal Caffrey years back is (re)assigned to (re)catching him. Since Burke is the only guy who really knows Caffrey's ways and thought process, he soon catches up with Caffrey. Fast forward a little, Caffrey cuts a deal with the FBI to be assigned as the Criminal Informant (C.I) in order to prevent from going back to prison. Burke decides to give him a chance and hires him as a consultant plus a piece of jewellery. The bling being a tracking anklet!

From there, starts the slick life of Neal Caffrey, beloved con man who smiles his way into living in a mansion owned by a rich widow and also inheriting her late husband's vintage suits!

Peter Burke along with his FBI team now armed with Caffrey starts out to catch geniuses with ah-not-so- good motives. Caffrey with his big brains and charm, undeniable reasoning abilities does the FBI a favor or two. He who once been a con man himself thinks like one to catch the wrong guys with the occasional help from his best friend Mozzie- the shadowed genius. The dynamics between Burke and Caffrey is a joy to watch.  Burke awed by Caffrey's ways yet weary of his slight cockiness. It's almost like 2 brothers.

Caffrey's charisma sure does attract the ladies.

The thing about White Collar is that there is not much of violence, barely any cuss words and no graphic you-know-what scenes. It's all about the style and sleekness. Most of the crimes are either a heist or some sort of robbery counterfeit combo. So you can expect a lot of stakeout nights, Caffrey impersonating as some big time buyer or an expert to get more details on the current case &  a lot of social events.

The characters are all like a feast on Thanksgiving.

From LtoR- Sara Ellis, Neal Caffrey, Clinton Jones, Diana Barrigan, Mozzie, Elizabeth Burke, Perter Burke

Peter Burke- FBI special agent in the White Collar division. Smart enough to catch Neal Caffrey. A loving husband. Funny. Successful. Even though he cares for Caffrey, he is clever enough not to trust Caffrey completely.

 photo caffreyburkke_zpsaaa34910.gif

Elizabeth Burke- Married to Peter Burke for 10 years. They are like the most adorable couple eva! Event Planner. Warm & friendly. Often acts as a mediator when there is tiff between Peter & Neal. You get a warm feeling when Elizabeth starts talking. Like a supportive super smart beautiful elder sister. Biggest supporter of her husband. Also takes sides of Mozzie and Caffrey when needed.

 photo liz_zpsc64d43b5.gif
 photo neal_zps6d4ee4c1.gif

Mozzie- Quick witted silver tongued ally of Caffrey. Caffrey's go-to guy when it comes to getting hold of information. Connected to the criminal world, fake ID guys and what not. In a nut shell a walking , talking encyclopedia. An orphan, therefore has a soft corner for children. Does not trust the FBI or any other government institutions. A huge conspiracy theorist. He is an absolute delight!

 photo bur_zps7042f9a6.gif
 photo moz_zps613cc05c.gif

Sara Ellis- Insurance Investigator. Smartass. Often, her cases are linked up with the FBI. Caffrey's romantic interest. I hope they end up together. It's like they are just meant to be!

 photo Nealsar_zps4ac1a9d3.gif

Diana Barrigan- Special agent. Burke's right hand. Street smart & dedicated to the job. She is back from Washington D.C to work under her mentor in New York. In spite of the fact that Caffrey and Barrigan gets along, its she who keeps him in line most of the times.

 photo dianaburke_zps972fcbe4.gif

Clinton Jones- FBI agent. The quiet one in the team. Strong believer in justice. Even though Caffrey comes up with not so straight forward contributions to solve a case, Jones appreciates his involvement. Considers Caffrey as a friend, however still believes that Caffrey needs to serve his time as a C.I before being released. Dedicated to his job, a team player. Harvard Law School product.

 photo tumblr_lo01gatnEw1qapfuwo1_500_zpsae8a9548.gif

Kate Moreau- Caffrey's then girlfriend for whom he escapes prison in the first place. Fellow con artist. Personally not a fan of Kate. Pretty? sure. Acting wise- not so much.

. photo kateneal_zps2475f1f2.gif

There is also an underlying story which continues from one episode to the next keeping the audience wanting for more. The initial seasons were the quest to find his then girlfriend and a secret associated with her and now its something to do with his past.

So watch, swoon, enjoy and send me a cookie :D
Will be back.
Ciao

Sleepless

The silence weighs heavily on her. Tick tock goes the clock. Sleep evades her. She tries to make out, the silhouette of the lamp in the dark. Hours dwindle away. She shuts her eyes willing herself to sleep. Worry and dismay prevails. Drowning in her own past. Lost in events that can never unravel again.

He: I love you a lot! Don't you know that already?
She: Yea I know but I need you to gimme more details.
He: You know, I don't talk cheesy.
She: Gimme a realistic one.
He: Okay, if I had 3 dosas, I'll give you 2 and I'll have 1 for myself!
She: Mmm.. seems legit  knowing how much of a foodie you are! I love you too.

She: Why have you kept all these movie stubs instead of throwing it away?
He: Just like that. I just wanted to keep them as a reminder of the many good times spent with you!
She: Aww..

V.Day? Meh!

Valentine's Day is way too hyped up.
This day every year- overrated.
Believe me, I have got nothing against love.
I'll rather go grocery shopping with him, eat so much that we both cant move, lie lazily on our couch and a million trivial, simple things for the rest of my life than have ONE day every year to celebrate our love.
Anniversaries, my friend is a whole different story!

And the award to goes to..

Me.. :D
Well, me and 10 other bloggers. Aqsa from Mischief Managed was sweet enough to nominate me for the Liebster Award. Anyhoo, an award is an award is an award! Yes, I am aware of the over usage of the word award! 8)

The rules:

1. 10 random facts about yourself.
2. Answer the questions please.
3. Nominate 11 bloggers with less than 200 followers
4. Write 11 questions for them to answer.

10 random things about me- I can give you 20 or more *if you still interested*. I'm generous that way :P Clickety click  here.

The Q&A session:

1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

The first thing, even before I look at the clock would be to grab my socks! I have cold feet, literally!

2. How do you express your anger?

Hmm, I sulk & over think. On some occasions rant. When I'm ready to rant, you better be all ears! :@

3. If you had to live on a lonely island and take only one book with you, which one would that be?

A difficult question. Nonetheless, it would have to be Kane and Abel by Jeffrey Archer. Even if I wanted to, I cannot forget the awe that I was in while reading this book!

4. An embarrassing moment/ fact about you?

I can be painfully quiet or ridiculously chatty when I'm nervous!

5. How much do you let your academic success/failure affect your life?

I was never, the 'failure is the stepping stone' person. It always brought me down and I would sulk and wallow in self pity. On the other hand, success was some sort of a dopamine overdose for me and I would crave for more!

6. Do you believe in first impressions?

Believe is a strong word, but first impressions definitely counts! It's prone to change as well.

7. What period of your life do you think was best?

Right now. I really cannot ask for more.

8. Do you live in present more or brood about past and fantasize about future more?

There was a time when I used to regret a lot of things in my past. Then I realized the mistakes made in the past are now my experiences. Now when I look back, I don't see a bland past but quite the opposite- a technicolored one! I much prefer the present and always look forward for what life has to offer me.

9. Your favorite cartoon and why?

Dexter's Laboratory. I adored Dexter and his antics. Maybe it was nature's way of telling me that I would end up with a scientist chap. ;)

10. And finally Harry potter or Twilight?

This is my moment of shame! I never really got a chance to read the Harry Potter series. And yes, Twilight was my guilty pleasure :| Don't give me that look. In my defense, I was young and foolish. Go ahead, judge!

My 11 nominees:

Congratulations people. I cant, for the life of me think of questions to ask you folks. So, enjoy the award. If you are adamant that you HAVE to answer questions. o_O Then, you may answer the questions(the ones which I just answered) asked by Aqsa. I think they are pretty cool questions.

Peace.

Book Review - The Butterfly Clues

Title: The Butterfly Clues.
Author: Kate Ellison.
Publisher: Egmont USA.
Year of Publication: 2012
Format: Paperback.
Pages: 325.
Genre: YA, Mystery, Thriller, Contemporary.
Blurb: Here.

Few months back, Miss Print held a giveaway and yours truly won some goodies which included 2 books, few bookmarks and colorful word magnets! One of the books won was an ARC by a debut author Kate  Ellison.

My Thoughts:
The Butterfly Clues even though under the genre of young adult, was refreshingly different. The protagonist of the book, Lo is different from most of the other YA heroines. As a matter of fact, she is no heroine. A girl who lost her brother, surviving in a family which is hanging by a thread. The only thing that brings peace in her chaotic life is order. She taps, repeats words, considers number 4, 8 etc unlucky - not proportionate. It becomes clear to the readers in the early stages of the book that Lo suffers from Obsessive Compulsive  Disorder. To top that off, Lo also has signs of Kleptomania. This is the story of a girl who is unable to let go of her past and that keeps haunting her.
Lo's odd ways and awkwardness are explained in great detail. Her ways were triggered by the death of her brother and the guilt and sadness has driven her to what she is now. I thought I would get tired off her tapping and counting- muttering certain words a certain number of times. However, she grew on me. I could somehow empathize with her, with her struggling in a normal world, trying to fit in. The plot gets more interesting when Lo is drawn towards a murder mystery and she cannot be at peace until she finds out what really happened.

In the quest for answers, she reaches Neverland - a place where dumpsters are a place of fun. Youngsters who feel like outcasts go there to disappear from the world. It looks dangerous from outside. There, she meets more people like her- different from the society norm.
What I loved about the book, was you never know what would happen next. I was intrigued to know what would happen to Lo. Will Lo get to the bottom of the mystery? Will she find her love? Will she find redemption? Will she ever be at peace? The parts where she interacts with her father and how her father loses his cool when he sees her obsessive rituals is so very realistic. The icing of the book was the final parts of the book. The moment when it all unravels in front of you. Not the murder part but the reason why Lo was drawn to the murder in the first place! The murderer was kinda obvious to the readers. If you could look past the descriptive OCD tendencies of Lo and an unrealistic, kinda cheesy love thing going on between Lo & a chap called Flynt, you would be blown away. A superb job for a debut author.

Sonder

n. The realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own- populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness-an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you'll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra- sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.

Ever felt this way? It's not all about us, is it?  How wrapped up can we get about our own affairs!

The Weird Diaries - 3

Sh*t scared of horror movies or anything paranormal. Yet, spends hours researching about them in the internet. Dilapidated old creepy creaky houses in the middle of nowhere, creepy kids, possession/exorcism, diabolic dolls, haunted/demonic mental asylums, biblical/theologically influenced horror - Oh the joy! Begs TheBetterHalf to give me company to watch horror movies. Of course being the fraidy cat that I am, long after the movie is over, the scenes keep replaying in my head. Obsessively imagines that a certain paranormal entity is right behind me or beside me! So damn scared that I cannot won't open my eyes at night just in case I might see something that would scare the daylights out of me! The trepidation has come to such an extent that TheBetterHalf needs has to wake up and turn on the lights at night, if I have to go pee :|| See, I'm not a fan of unexpected alarmingly scary surprises! Just saying. :|

Matter of a question

They have been together for 6 years. He was ready. The answer was ‘yes’. He didn't want a grand gesture, just a simple question to which he would have a simple answer. The same evening while watching television, Stuart casually asks him, "So, I was thinking why not both of us go get married already?"

The Call

The phone kept ringing. Reluctantly she answered it. As expected a familiar voice asked, how she was doing. "Enough with the pleasantries", she thought. Exhausted, she agreed to whatever the voice instructed her to do. The next week, she was back at the clinic, for another blood test, more prodding and yet to find out.

The perfect surprise !

He walked back from the car, huffing and puffing breathing out the cold air. It was a grey, winter morning. He had his hands full, with bags of grocery. The door was open, so he didn't have to ring the doorbell.
"Why in hell would she leave the door open in this freezing weather?", he thought.
He answered the question himself, "So that I can get in while she's too busy doing something else."
Sure enough, there she was cleaning up the kitchen.
"I have got a surprise for you", he said dropping the grocery bags on the kitchen counter.
"Hmm, what is it?", she asked, "isn't these the surprise?", motioning to the huge overflowing bags.
"Wait, I'll be back, just a moment", he replied.
He went back to his car, and returned with yet another bag.
"Now, what is that?", she asked, eyebrows raised.
"Bucket of chicken & beer !!", he exclaimed, grinning.
"That's the surprise?"
Clearly perplexed, he said innocently, "Um..yea, now you don't have to cook and we both can watch the game and hog away."
A coy smile played on her lips.
"Let's do this !! ", she called out and went ahead to clear out the table in front of their television.
